National Apartment Council Announces Curtis Way as Chairman and Welcomes Rohit Gupta to Board of Directors
New Board leadership reinforces NAC’s federal advocacy on rental housing supply, financing and tax reform.
OTTAWA, Oct. 8, 2026 – The National Apartment Council (NAC) has elected Curtis Way as Chairman of its Board of Directors and welcomed Rohit Gupta as a new board member, following its Annual General Meeting in Toronto. The leadership changes follow NAC’s October 5 and 6 Hill Day on Parliament Hill, where members from across Canada engaged federal decision-makers on the tax and financing barriers to new rental housing.
Curtis Way, Founder and CEO of The RMS Group, brings more than four decades of experience in development, construction, property management and capital markets. He also chairs NAC’s Capital Markets and Finance Committee, which has focused on access to capital, financing conditions and the delivery of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) programs.
NAC’s federal advocacy priorities focus on addressing GST/HST reassessments and audits through clearer tax rules for rental housing; a Canadian capital gains reinvestment mechanism to keep capital invested in purpose-built rental housing; strengthening and streamlining CMHC financing programs; and reintroducing a modern Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) tax incentive. The Council has held more than 50+ meetings with federal officials and made five formal submissions, engaging the Prime Minister’s Office, Members of Parliament from both government and opposition, the Senate of Canada, Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada, Finance Canada, and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
“The experience of rental housing providers and apartment builders needs to be part of the national conversation about housing supply, financing and policy,” said Curtis Way. “I look forward to working with our members, partners and government stakeholders to advance practical solutions that help make rental housing development more viable.”
Rohit Gupta, CEO of Edmonton-based Rohit Group, has helped expand the family business across residential, rental, commercial and land development since joining in 2002. He brings experience with the investment and regulatory pressures confronting housing projects in Western Canada.
Curtis Way succeeds Derek Lobo, NAC’s former President and Chair. Derek Lobo remains Founder and Chief Growth Officer of NAC continuing to support the Council’s national growth and industry engagement. Curtis Way and Rohit Gupta join Allan Drewlo, President of Drewlo Holdings, and Jay Patry, President of Patry Group, on the Board.
